Flávio Rangel – a story of the Brazilian stage
Directed by Paola Prestes
Edited by Matias Lancetti e Paola Prestes
Telefilm, 52 min., 2009. Feature film , 91 min., 2009
Flávio Rangel – a story of the Brazilian stage is a documentary on one of the most brilliant theater directors of Brazil. Rangel was part of the first generation of theater authors and directors who introduced to the public in the late fifties a truly Brazilian way of making theater, with plays that reflected Brazilian reality and its social and political dilemmas.
Flávio Rangel staged over 50 plays and shows that became part of the history of the Brazilian theater, like Gimba, O Pagador de Promessas, Liberdade Liberdade, O Santo Inquérito, Piaf, Amadeus and Cyrano de Bergerac.
His plays were seen by hundreds of thousands of people.
This important moment in the history of theater is told in the documentary by those who made it and lived it. However, the documentary isn´t a story in the past tense: it brings to the present the ongoing discussion about theater, art in general and culture in Brazil.
Read about the documentary Flávio Rangel - a story of the Brazilian stage in the FIT 2009's critic panel (in portuguese).

Poetic documentary on the city of São Paulo. A subjective camera registers life unfolding on the streets of São Paulo through a car windshield, which works as a cinema or TV screen.
“The film is fascinating for the spectators (those who accept the contract) who let themselves be carried by this time that runs indefinitely (…). Paola Prestes expresses a living experience of São Paulo. São Paulo – Urban Logbook is one of our sensitive reactions to the city”.
